Academy, Texas

One of the two best little towns in the state of Texas. The other one is Little River. Explanation: Incorporated in 1978 the community is actually made up of both towns, and is called Little River Academy.  Little River has the Post Office, Academy has the schools.

This web site is located in Academy, "on the east side of the hyphen" as the saying goes.  We usually refer to our location as "Academy".

Academy is located 10 miles east of Belton, and 6 miles south of Temple. Population 1600 good eggs and hardly any stinkers. There does not appear to be a "wrong side of the tracks" and while we are not crime-free, we appear to do better than most little towns. More on this town, from time to time.

 

Academy Schools are reputed to be among the best around the state. Top scholastic, athletic, and musical achievements have been the rule rather than the exception over the years. It's a point of pride to say you are a graduate or a student of Academy High School.

A house is sometimes defined as a more or less rectangular object, sitting in the middle of a lot, into which you pour money. In this case, we don't mind a bit. Bought the house in 1994, and have been perpetually remodeling ever since. But it's become our little home, and we are always glad for the sanctuary it provides after a day out in the "real world" dealing with all that is out there.

Jan. 1997. Yes, it snows in Texas, but not often. Summer of 2000 ~ Hot! We had 61 days of NO rain (as of Sept. 1) and 54 days of 100F or worse. About the same in 2006
