Castle I -- Seeschloss Ort

Seeschloss Ort, built on and covering the whole small island in the deep (and therefore very cold) lake Traunsee, connected to the <Landschloss Ort> by a bridge. The original Gothic castle was first mentioned in a document from 1138, rebuilt in the 17th, 19th and 20th centuries. Currently, it is the background to the yearly summer-festival. Schloss Ort belongs to the city of Gmunden on the western shore of the lake, in the wonderful landscape of the <Salzkammergut>. Though the mountains are not really high (around 1600m), they tower very steeply and impressively over the lakes, which are located at about 440m above sea level. The painting is by Gerthard Neswadba, shown in Galerie Otto, Wien.
