Education, Formal and Otherwise
Graduated from high school
at Bayard, Iowa, 1955, CDH went into the printing business, having learned the trade from his
father as a "Printer's Devil" starting at the age of 12. 
In 1957, he purchased his first newspaper with a small down payment. In those days ALL down payments were small. He sold that paper after three years, and spent the next years as editor, reporter, publisher and photographer for several weekly and daily newspapers in Iowa, Nebraska and Texas.
Attended Chadron State College in Nebraska 1967-69 while editor of the local newspaper. Majored in music education and was also editor-in-chief of the college newspaper, "The Eagle."
Owned or managed printing businesses from 1955-1995, some in connection with newspapers.
Beliefs, Etc.
Many and varied interests, including writing, music, computers, and a host of other avocations. Much of what is seen in the myriad of pages in this site will provide insight.
Davyd's Demesne
One of the pages in this site is called 'Davyd's Demesne' and covers a number of wildly diverse viewpoints.
It contains controversial subject matter (by some opinions), but you will never find it mundane.
As with any of the pages in this site, you will find some of interest, and others not at all. In any case, you are invited to comment by way of e-mail.

Texas !A Sam Houston kind of Texan for half his adult life. Would have been born in Texas, but his parents were in Iowa at the time; it was more convenient to be with them. Arrived in Texas as soon as he was needed.
Interests
As you look at the Home Page, you will get the idea of a wide variety of interests. There's more, but you were promised not to be bored.
Family
Father of five children: John, David, Nora, Randall, Daniel, and stepfather to two, Gina and Brian, all grown and on their own. As of January 2005, there are 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Married to the lovely and talented DJ since Jan. 19, 1991. She is an accounting coordinator for over 20 years for a company that provides job training and housing for mentally and physically handicapped persons.
"King Arthur"
CDH shown here in costume for the title role of "King Arthur's Court," a dinner theatre performance in Rockport, Texas, circa 1979.
"One with the tree" might be the title for this photo made by David's sister, Charlotte Maurer, in a mountainous area near Anza, California. The hollowed-out space was hard to define . . . too small for a bear, but could have been a burned out area. The rest of the tree was remarkably healthy.
