Comments:

Hello Inman Researchers, This is a great site! I am happy to see that the vast Inman research is getting a place to be aired. I have a computer room FULL of Inman data.

All this collected from trying to learn the parents of my John Inman, born
1776, supposedly in TN. He was married in 1808 to Elizbeth Bragg in Cocke
County, TN. John was married a first time to unknown, and had son,
Jonathon J. M. Inman, born 1800. John and Elizabeth Bragg were married by
a JP in Cocke Co, by the name of John Inman, and according to a statement
by Elizabeth when filing for widow benefits, that this John was her husband
John's, "own Uncle". Well, this Justice of the Peace was a son of Shadrach
Inman, married to Ann Chilton, and about four years older than my John
Inman. I have all data for the three biblical named Inman's, and for the
life of me can not make a connection. I certainly hope that someone out
there can help me with this puzzle. It has been stated that my John
Inman's parents were James Inman of VA, but this is not reasonably possible.
This family has been well documented and my John Inman does not fit in
there. Happy Hunting

I have enjoyed browsing your sight. I am just beginning my research on my
Inman family history. I have only the names through my great-grandfather.
Since I was a child I've always been told there were 3 Inman brothers that
came over from Europe to GA or SC around 1840 to 1850. I also know that my
great-grandmother's maiden name was Rhuark, and that my grandfather was
born in Ocilla GA. I appreciate any information on possible links.

Comments:

Mary Inman, who was born in Ohio, married William J Harris 21 August 1843 in Morgan County, Ohio. They had 6 children, all born in Ohio, several in Morgan County. They may have lived at Plainfield, Illinois, sometime between 1853 and 1856. They moved to Allamakee County, Iowa, in 1856. William J remarried in 1865, indicating Mary died between 1860 (she was on the 1860 census) and 1865. William J Harris and some of his children moved to Butler County, Nebraska in 1870. I have no other information on Mary Inman or her ancestors. However listed on the 1860 Iowa Federal census as neighbors of the William J Harris is Thomas Inman, age 27, and wife Catherine, 26, both born Ohio; children Abel 3, & Joseph 1, both born Iowa. The family was also listed on the 1856 Iowa State census. This could be a brother of Mary Inman.

Comments:

I am researching the name Ingman from Frederick Co, MD. I have found probable connections to the Henry Inman who married Hannah Pinkstone in Anne Arundel Co, MD by following property transactions. Records list people with various spellings that are all probably the same person i.e. Joshua Inman, Ingman, Inmon. Other spellings which may be the same family are: Immann, Innam, and possibly Ingram, since not all writers knew how to spell!

Comments:

The Inmans on the paternal side of my family are pretty well documented. I would like to know more about the English connection as far back as I can get. I listed only the paternal Inmans of my great grandmother Ethelyn Inman but she was descended from Inmans on her maternal side as well. Her mother Rachel Jane Inman was her father Jarvis' first cousin. Rachel Jane's mother was Dorothy Rutter and her father was Stephen C. Inman, son of Aaron Inman and Sarah Cranmer. My mother says her family married some Inmans as well but little is know about them. I haven't done a detailed trace on my mother's side yet. Most of those I have traced settled in upstate NY around the Finger Lakes. Here are some of the family names in my mother's family. Perhaps someone will recognize a connection to some Inmans. Calvin, Hay, Harrington, Higgins, Lush, Marvin, Parry, Saunders, Snyder, Yackel
