Did You Know?

ü There is no state law or policy of the police department requiring a police officer to show you their radar in a speeding offense. Similarly, there is no state law or department policy requiring a person be shown a videotape of the traffic stop or contact. If an officer shows you their radar or videotape, it is strictly out of courtesy.

« Vehicle license plates must be renewed annually by the end of the expiration date on tag.

« Did you know that it is against the law for police agencies to have a ticket quota system? Texas passed that law in 1989!

« Did you know that by law, about 50% of all traffic fines actually go to the State?

« Vehicle inspection stickers must be renewed by the end of the month indicated on the decal.

Always wear your seatbelt. It could save your life. The police department actively enforces the state seatbelt laws. Keep your children safe by buckling them up too! Don't forget to "click it" or you might get a ticket!

« ALWAYS yield right of way to emergency vehicles displaying flashing lights and / or siren. You should pull to your right as soon as it is safe and stop until the emergency vehicle passes or turns onto a different street.

 

Police Officers are subject to the same laws as any other drivers during the course of their duties , unless they are on a call of distress or urgency. The law allows police officers to exceed the speed limit if they exercise due care and is it not necessary to use the emergency lighting for all situations. However, any police officer that is found to be driving erratically or unsafe, should be reported to the Chief of Police or the Department Sergeant.
