Established in Copperas Cove in 1995, Therapy Tails on Wheels(c) has dedicated themselves to providing the highest quality in pet therapy to the Central Texas area. There are many pet therapy organizations out there, including the independent volunteer - those that choose not to belong to any one group. Therapy Tails on Wheels(c) is different from them in that, we have high standards and will NOT compromise! Many have tried to copy our program and story, even incorporating our story and website content it into their OWN websites. But hard work and a serious dedication to our pet therapy program is what set's our group apart from all others. We are also looking for volunteers that are content to walk BEHIND their dog, not in front. The volunteer that is content to remain anonymous and not seek publicity for themselves through our program is the volunteer that we would like to welcome! Thank you for stopping by and we
hope that you enjoy your visiting our website. Contact information is listed in the index
if you are interested in joining our group! Many times when someone enters a nursing facility they have had to leave beloved pets behind. This change in their life situation is often very traumatic for the new resident. Even with the loving care and attention that they receive from the staff, sometimes there is something missing. The once familiar touch of a cold nose, the wagging of a loving tail and the soft touch of fur are things desperately missed. And so with dedicated volunteers, we visit these wonderful residents on a regular basis and bring just a little touch of our home, to theirs! Often when we arrive at a facility, the residents have gathered at the windows and are eagerly waiting for our "Best Friends". As we step closer to the front door, the dogs are prancing and wagging their tails. The dogs immediately begin spreading their magic and love through the facility. Cries of "The dogs are here"! echo through the halls and as more residents arrive, they are followed by the staff as well! Each dog is touched, held, loved, and talked to. Some residents will share secrets of long ago stories of departed pets, tears, and just experience the safety in being close to a dog again. The magic has begun and the residents are calmer, more willing to take part in therapy or medical treatments and they are motivated to interact with other residents and patients. From playful Terrier's to Greyhounds, Goldens, Great Pyrenees, mixed breeds and more, our Therapy Dogs all share one thing in common. They are loved, they all know the safety and shelter of loving homes, all have been given the chance to share their gift of healing and almost all are rescues. With young and old alike, the animals act as an emotional anchor and provide the much needed support the residents needs. As I continue this work, I am humbled by the love and devotion each member of our team has for their animals and the residents they visit. When a Therapy Tails on Wheels©1995 Canine Volunteer prances into a facility with their head held high and a silly grin on their face, something reaches out and grabs you! There is no escape! You have been caught with love's paw and you are right in the middle of a Tail Waggin good time! We at Therapy Tails On Wheels((c) Pet
