ANGEL FIRE NEW MEXICO
The American Indians of the region say that Spirits dwell here. If ever there was such a place then to me it is this place. There is another place far away in Southeast Asia once called South Vietnam and there is a place there called Con Thien, it wasn't much of a place then, just a hill with two or Three trees and some holes in the ground that we who were there called home. To my understanding the People of Vietnam call it the Hill of Angels. Ironic isn't it, that a man named Dr. Westphall should build the first Memorial in the United States for Service Men who died for their Country in such a place. He built it to honor his son David Westphall who was killed (KIA) in 1968 at Con Thien.
Some of us from Echo 2/12 were at Con Thien in the summer of 1967 myself included along with many others. Here you will find some pictures from that time period and some from Veterans Day 1996 when Gordon Thacker, Bob Kennison and myself along with Bob and Mariane Thorton got together with Dennis & Scott Koho the two brothers of Bill Koho a member of our unit that was KIA. and Memorial Day 1998 at Angel Fire New Mexico. NOTE the Disabled Veterans (DAV) have assumed Responsibility for the site.
Dr. Westphall
