While on a company size operation about 6k northwest of Camp Evans and
about 5k west of the village of Phong Dien near the northern boundary
of Thua Thien Province and north of the Song O Lau River in I Corps,
Republic of Vietnam, artillery forward observer LCpl William Koho was
walking through the brush near the point man of his platoon with Golf
Company, 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines. A Marine in front of Bill tripped
a booby trapped grenade which exploded near Bill causing severe wounds
and resulted in his death. LCpl Koho was on a voluntarily extended
tour of duty in Vietnam and had turned down a leave to the Philippines
in order to participate in the operation. That was the way he was.
Didn't want to miss a thing.
