Bruce died doing his job, repairing a land communications line that had been broken. It didn't matter that it hardly ever worked correctly and that it was a backup to the voice radio communications system to our battalion forward. It was his job and he was asked to do it along with two other Marines. And as they were walking back down the hill toward the Battery from repairing it a shell exploded behind them. Miraculously only one was wounded seriously, unfortunately he succumbed to those wounds.
