After graduating from Middleton High School, Charleston SC in 1988 I joined the U.S. Army. I spent nine and a half years in the Army as a Switching Systems Technician and Network Administrator. I participated in over three live world missions including "Operation Just Cause", "Operation Twin Lions", and "Operation Desert Shield/Storm". Our tactical switch has logged thousands of hours breaking all current records for uninterrupted service for tactical switching systems. Our efforts were published in the GTE C3 Systems News in 1991. Near the end of my tenure in the military I engineered and helped start a program to upgrade and repair old 286-486 computers to Pentium class machines. A service that was and still is in great demand. Support and interest for the program went from 300 computers to more than 30,000 computer in just two short years. I went from the only technician to managing over 14 technicians. As with all good things my time in the military was coming to an end. I left military service on the 11th of March 1998 and went to work for a company called PrimeCo Personal Communications now known as Verizon Wireless. I was honored to be apart of the largest cellular infrastructure change out in history. PrimeCo spent more than 500 million dollars changing out every Motorola CBSC and Base Site Station with Lucent 5ESS-2K Autoplex switches and Lucent Base Site Stations. Lucent switches are good, but Motorola's Base Stations are way better. At PrimeCo I started out as a Switch Technician working on Motorola CBSC (Centralized Base Site Controllers) and DSC EMX-2500s. I then worked and specialized in Lucent 5ESS-2K DCS switches (Autoplex), Alcatel 1631SX DACS, two Alcatel DSC MegaHub STPs, three Glenayre 4240 MVPs, two Glenayre 2120 MVP's, two Lucent SMSCs and tons of other cool stuff. At PrimeCo I worked my way to Senior Switch Technician and Network Operations Analyst in just over a year. In addition to my Switch Technician responsibilities I maintained Oracle Database servers and helped design and program a Performance monitoring WEB tool, which was built upon a framework of HTML, CGI/Perl and Oracle. I was also the LAN Administrator and was responsible for more than 30 Sun, HP-UX, PC and X-Terminal computers along with the network printers, hubs, routers, patch panels, and other plethora of other oddities. I received six awards and recognition in my two years at PrimeCo, but I felt that a change might suit me. I went to work for a company called Invisix, a joint venture between Motorola and Cisco in March of 2000. Invisix focused on providing integration solutions for wireless, data, and application service providers. After working with Invisix for just a month I was named the Lab Manager for the Fort Worth COE Lab. I have spend considerable amounts of time replanning the lab layout, wiring and organization. I went on to help launch another CoE in Japan and designed two other CoEs for China and South America. Invisix was affected by the dot.com crash of 2001 and was absorbed by Motorola when Motorola bought out Cisco's shares in Invisix. Invisix then became Motorola Professional Services (MPS) and focused primarily on 3G wireless integration services. After several more evolutions I eventually ended up in the Mission Critical Network Services (MCNS) group where I am still at today. Our focus and goal is to provide Public Safety and other Government and Enterprise customers with network consulting services. As an engineer my responsibilities are network consulting through detailed assessments, network design, and network integration and support. I hold, or have held, many certifications including Cisco's CCNA and CCNP and hold a Bachelors of Science in Information Technology graduating with a 4.0 average. |

My wife, Liz, was also in the Army for five years and was also a communications technician. However she had little interest in pursuing this career and left military service 1995. She went to work for Central Texas College as the Project Pass assistant where she provided services to students on tight budgets (such as books) and students that needed extra help passing classes (tutors). She was also an Algebra and Chemistry tutor. When I got out of the Military we had to move and she had to find a new job. She then went to work at the Tarrent County Community College (TCJC) as a Chemistry Lab assistant. She liked it a lot since she got to stay sharp on her Chemistry skills and she got to play with all the cool chemicals without getting into too much trouble. During this time she continued to work on her degree in Nutrition taking prerequisite classes at TCJC and Texas Christian University (TCU). Liz was then accepted into the Southwestern Medical in Dallas Nutrition program where she graduated with a degree in Dietetics/Nutrition! She is now working as a Clinical Dietition for the VA Hospital in Dallas, TX. She says the people she works with are wonderful and she really like working there. Among all of Liz's many activities she found the time to participate in the Red River Challenge on May 6 and 7, 2000. The Red River Challenge was a 150 mile bike trek from Denton, Texas to Lake Texoma, Oklahoma! She raised $223 dollars for the Multiple Sclerosis foundation! Liz is also an active member in the American Diabetes Association (ADA).

I like to do all kinds of things and so does my wife. However as with most couples we like to do different things. For example I can spend all day working on a computer or flying my kite. My wife could care less about either. On the other hand my wife can spend a whole day in the kitchen baking bread and cakes. As you might of guessed I have better things to do. I am also an avid Dallas Stars Hockey fan. Go Stars! We do have a lot of things that we do like to do together. |
